Enjoy a flutter at Newcastle Racecourse, spend a leisurely afternoon on some 92 golf courses within an hour of the city or witness some impressive athletes at the Gateshead International Stadium.
For rugby fans, a visit to Kingston Park (home to Newcastle Falcons Premier League rugby team) is highly recommended. For the some high drama, the Theatre Royal, which hosts a six week Royal Shakespeare Company season each year is located in the vibrant Quayside area.
Given the variety of leisure attractions in the area, Newcastle is also rapidly becoming established as a European short-break destination.
Newcastle comes "Alive after Five". Late-night shopping is available until 8pm Monday to Friday and until 7pm on Saturdays, so you can always pick up a bargain or the latest fashion must-have.
